Great movie!
The direction can be uneven, especially when the tone changes, but the Globe-winning performance by Giamatti is stellar, as is Hoffman at his best, and Rosamund Pike is outstanding.
Another star here is the Oscar-nominated make-up, showing the characters at different stages of their lives - some of the best age make-up I've ever seen, very subtle and extremely realistic.
Barney's not the nicest bloke, but Giamatti is brilliant as ever, and you can't help but care about poor flawed Barney.
