Review of Bardelys the Magnificent (1926) by Erik G — 25 Jun 2010
Pretty routine swashbuckler enlivened by John Gilbert's exuberant, swaggering performance. He basically out-Errol Flynns Errol Flynn. He even does Douglas Fairbanks, for which King Vidor provides what must have been the first use of slow motion in an action scene.
For many years, this film was totally lost, which is a staggering and humbling idea that a Hollywood studio film, something that required the talents of thousands could completely disappear.
