Review of Bangkok Dangerous (2008) by Lindsey L — 19 Mar 2009
Not particularly "bad," but certainly not very "good" either. If there's one word to describe "Bangkok Dangerous," it's this: forgettable. It's just another generic hitman movie that doesn't really add anything new or exciting to the genre.
The shoot-out at the end looks pretty cool, but there's nothing terribly original about it, and considering the last shoot-out I saw was the masterful Guggenheim sequence in "The International," it seems even less impressive.
Nicolas Cage gives an uncharacteristically bland performance as a professional assassin who is taking on one final job (gee, that sounds familiar, doesn't it?) in Bangkok, and Shahkrit Yamnarm, more annoying than appealing, portrays his assistant-turned-protege who also serves as his guide.
Throw in an unconvincing love story sideplot and some incredibly stupid gangsters, and that pretty much sums up the movie. As I said, forgettable.
