Review of Bamboozled (2000) by Daniel M — 28 Jun 2008
After wrting an english paper on minstrel shows, this film caught my attention. The implied messages of racial identity are very strong in this film, and the content is very controversial, as most would expect from a spike lee joint.
The acting is very mediocre, especially Damon Wayans who is just too overly eccentric. The film also seems to struggle with finding its identity, there are times where the film is trying to be funny but it is simply hard to laugh, due to the content.
And there are other times when the film tries to seriously portray a strong message, but it just comes off silly. Overall, it is a good satirical film with interesting filming techniques, and an interesting take on racial identity.
But if you're looking for a film with good acting, this isn't it.
