Review of Bamboozled (2000) by Anthony B — 14 Jun 2007
Should be mandatory if you're African American, but a must see for all who want to understand how history is doomed to repeat itself in a racist society even if it just repates in a different way.
Spike Lee does it again.
This movie changed the way I looked at videos, at movies, at everyday people, at America, at Disney, the media and myself.
Reminds me of an Immortal Technique line from the song "Caught in a Hustle".
"I used to wonder why people don't believe in themselves/and then I saw the way they portrayed us to everyone else.
They cursed us, to only see the worst in ourselves, blind to the fact the whole time we were hurting ourselves".
By the way, if you havne't noticed, I'm only talking about the movies that I hightly recommend. I wouldn't tell you about a movie that wasn't amazing or life altering, or profound, or good in some way or another...that would be a waste of time for both of us.
