Review of Bamboozled (2000) by John D — 07 Sep 2008
The movie sends a very powerful message and draws the audience in, but I think there are too many stylistic choices at work that keep this film from being truly critically acclaimed. The film was shot with a simple camcorder.
I thought this was for some effect or to emphasize points of the story, but really it was just to stay under budget, so given that its not for any real reason it just feels weird. Damon Wayans instills his character with an absurd accent that is really just more annoying than anything else.
The derogatory language and images become so overwhelming and constant that I just felt uncomfortable towards the end.
