Review of Ballad of a Soldier (1959) by Abhi D — 21 Apr 2008
This is sheer poetry.
The story revolves around a young Russian soldier who gets four days leave from the front to go see his mother. However, on the way, a lot of unforeseen events delay him and finally, he does reach home, but for a very short time.
You have to watch it to see the depth and poignancy in the movie. It tells you what war can do to people, how it can change them and yet, how some people maintain their integrity amidst all the suffering.
