Review of Baise-moi (2000) by Justin M — 09 Oct 2006
This film was messed-up. It's a tale of two women's descent into pure evil. It could easily have been done without so much on-screen violence, and with no sexually-explicit frontal nudity (certainly no on-screen penetration), but nooooo, then the film wouldn't have claimed so much notoriety, and the producers wouldn't have clawed so much money out of violent perverts' pockets.
But I really could have done without the disturbing dreams that this film gave me. This film might have gone somewhere as interesting as disturbing if it tried to rationalise the girls' decisions with some kind of philosophy.
But it's just "I'm in a bad mood because I'm tired of being raped in this ghetto. I think I'll strangle my flatmate, go shoot a load of random men and women, and take a different guy to bed every night.
" In retrospect, this film genuinely confused me. The women possessed reason before their first murder, then inexplicably go on a killing spree, lacking both their rhyme and reason. The hell?
