Review of Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) by Lewis J — 07 Jan 2019
If someone claims, it was a movie where every second is predictable, s/he's lying. To be honest, I began watching "Bad Times At The El Royale" with the usual scepticism, that somehow, inadvertently developed in me as a "side-fear" of Hollywood clichï¿ 1/2 1/2 (C)s..
The title got my attention. Without checking, the first picture in my mind was a a hotel with a casino full of questionable people..
I was right about that. I wasn't right about anything else. Yes, the baseline of the story works like a puzzle. You can see the individual pieces but you have no idea how they fit together. You don't, because the narrative lets you see only as much, as it is deemed necessary, enough to glue your eyes to the screen, watching the next move unfolding. The acting from all participating in this production is absolutely brilliant. This movie felt real. It tasted Real. So much, I can still taste iron in my mouth..!
Flippin' watch it! All Hail, El Royale!
