Review of Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) by Bill P — 20 Oct 2018
The charm of an old time thriller wiith some modern sensibilities. The characters who all seem to seek redemption or freedom at any cost while simultaneously seeming to accept their life as justly earned penance makes for an interesting journey.
Goddard teases with the answers to questions just enough to pique interest without becoming annoying. The violence is a bit reminiscent of Tarantino while the resolution that it leads to reminds me more of Ang Lee.
It's not an "Oscar-nomination" type of film, but it's an entertaining movie.
