Review of Bad Santa (2003) by Cameron W — 01 Feb 2010
I viewed this film with some interest from afar for a while before watching it, thinking it'd be crass and rude yes, but I thought thre would at least be some laughs in this film.
I was sadly mistaken, there were hardly many funny moments to note, and the whole film just seemed to be a depressing view of a character you don't connect with at all, and an ensemble cast who just seem to react around him without having any distinguishing features themselves.
Billy Bob Thorton plays a good 'bad guy', but the usual anti-hero that has been labelled with characters like him don't apply to Bad Santa, merely just an arsehole who the audience feel so very distant from.
The fact that the story hardly goes anywhere for about 4/5 of the film is very dissapointing, instead of developing the characters in any major way, it just seems to be a biopic of how much of a bastard this guy really is.
I don't recommend this film to anyone, hardly made me laugh and just left me feeling distain for those who dispise christmas.
