Review of Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) by Adam Z — 24 Aug 2007
Suspense thriller with a simple plot but bags of intrigue. One of the things most notable about Bad Day at Black Rock is that it is a western set in a forgotten post-WWII town, almost like the setting is a metaphor for the decline of the old ways.
Spencer Tracy arrives, the stranger stirring up tension as a secret begins to unravel that threatens the community. Mostly dialogue driven, but the performances from the ensemble cast prevent this from sliding into tedium.
Comparable in mood to High Noon, and just as commendable.
