Review of Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) by Tom K — 29 Dec 2011
Slow, laborious. Andre Previn's score tries to make it move like West Side Story, with a capital FAIL. But Tracy is awesome in the traditional sense of the word, as he gracefully out-maneuvers villains Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine and Robert Ryan.
A brilliant movie of duty and courage in the face of adversity, and -- despite its anti-racism subject matter, it never falls into preachiness.
