Review of Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) by Aaron E — 26 Jan 2008
This is one of those movies that catches you off guard. I saw this late one night on ITV or BBC2 - and at the time would have probably balked at the idea of watching a 1955 movie with Spencer Tracy - however, the cinematography and opening sequence grabbed me immediately.
This is such a classic and overlooked thriller! Definitely one of the all time great movies. Tracy's character turns up at Black Rock looking for a Japanese guy - something about an insurance payment if I recall correctly - either way, his 'nosin aroun' starts to reveal some shady fucking goings on at Black Rock - populated by a dodgy bunch of fuckers if ever you saw them - Ernest Borgnine and Lee Marvin are standouts among them.
Must see.
