Review of Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) by Xgary X — 15 Dec 2007
Taut thriller with Spencer Tracy fighting racism one-handed. This movie makes excellent use of Cinemascope, with every shot; be it in the small-town jail or in the arid desert with picturesque mountains in the distance, looking perfect.
Watch how, without a word, one character is designated early on as the true power in the town simply by how the others act around him (running over to him, reading things for him). And besides Tracy, the cast includes Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine, Walter Brennan and Lee Marvin.
