Review of Backdraft (1991) by Greg F — 30 Jan 2009
Fire! Terrifying and horrific at times, yet cozy and comforting at others. Fire in this movie is a full blown character, alluring, captivating, beautiful, angry, deadly, malevolent... Who woulda thought that the cute little firecracker, who played Opie , woulda grown up to be so incendiary (tending to inflame the senses).
Movie has it all, good acting, firetrucks, De Niro, Kurt Russell, Donald Sutherland, a Baldwin brother, real life Chicago firefighters......and of course the brilliant Ron Howard at the wheel! A must see if for nothing else, you may develop a healthy respect for fire and firefighters.
