Review of Bachelor Mother (1939) by Paul S — 31 Dec 2017
One of my favorite screwball comedies, perhaps this is number one. It was my first exposure to David Niven in a starring role and now I wonder why I haven't seen more of him. This film is also the first role I saw Ginger Rogers in where she really shined as an actress.
It seems she had been in many films prior to this one as more of a prop because she was such a great dancer, but this film set it straight in my mind that she could do more than just dance (her performance in Once Upon a Honeymoon left me somewhat unimpressed).
She was super funny too. One of the most charming women of the time for sure. This is also my favorite performance of Charles Coburn, who is excellent in everything I've seen.
