Review of Baby (2008) by Yuuka T — 17 Jan 2009
If you`re a big fan of Hong Kong gangster movies then this won`t seem that tragic or shocking to you because we all know how these lives turn out.
The 80s 90s ah beng hair is ADORABLE on Baby. I might have liked this movie a lot more if they had gone into the rise of Benny a bit more so that I could relate. As it stands, Baby seems to be the only one with full understanding of that so he`s filled with anger and despair over his Brothers' fates and all we could do was detachedly watch him deal.
The acting and casting was good all round. Everyone you`re supposed to hate, you hate. Every annoying bastard role has a face to match so you don`t even have to know what he did to hate his guts. Similarly, the nice, tortured souls, evil doing yet good-hearted rascally bum characters had softer behaviours and pleasant looks.
Pace is a bit slow throughout but the end rushes in on you. Not impressive on an action score but if you like tragedies and "wasted" lives and Asians living in America type stories then Baby is good.
