Yes, this is one of those movies with an obvious agenda, and it's not one we haven't seen and heard before. But what makes it stand out is the unique stories that are used to get the message across.

I was equally absorbed in all four interwoven storylines, so that even in a two hour and twenty minute movie, nothing felt like filler. But neither did it seem that the movie was overextending itself, as every story was enough to pack its intended emotional punch.

The tone of the movie never lets you feel safe, so I was constantly expecting the worst and hoping I was wrong. The result is a movie that's as suspenseful as it is poignant, though it's the most subdued story, the one about the deaf Japanese schoolgirl, that ends up being the saddest.
