Review of Like Dandelion Dust (2009) by Alyssa N — 02 Jan 2010
This is a powerful drama about a situation so frightening I imagine it would be hard for any parent to even consider. If it's melodramatic at times, that's only because the subject matter calls for it, and it works because of how earnestly the whole cast throw themselves into their performances.
The dialogue and choices that the characters make feel genuine, and whether or not you agree, you can at least understand their point of view. However, I was disappointed that the difficult and morally complex dilemma presented at the beginning of the film becomes distinctly black and white by the end.
Besides being a bit of a cowardly way for the writers to avoid the heart of the tricky issue at hand, it also made the movie way too predictable. Admittedly, this probably would have bothered me more if I wasn't already so emotionally invested in the story, so that works in its favor.
