Review of In My Skin (2002) by Alyssa N — 13 Jul 2009
Despite all the warnings I'd heard, I didn't except this film to be even half as disturbing as it turned out to be. But the scenes of excessive self-mutilation look so real, and maybe even if they didn't, itâ??s just the way it's presented combined with the actress's brilliant performance that is most unsettling of all.
And even if this is a rare, extreme case of "cutting", the feelings of the protagonist as well as the reactions of the people around her are all very realistic. I think what makes this movie so powerful is that, while it does have shock value and plenty of gore, it still remains psychologically believable in a very frightening way.
