Review of Babe: Pig in the City (1998) by Casey R — 10 Jun 2008
Matches Brazil and City of Lost Children for whimsical surreality and takes quite literally the generality of the urban environment in its title. Which city? All of them. This may be the last thing you'd expect after Babe 1 (which was bloody brilliant), but this is fucking fantastic.
If Hoggett farm was the apotheosis of the pastoral, then "the city" is the essence of urban spectacle. And Babe is still wondering what's going on. The mouse chorus is still the greatest thing around, and there's a kitten that will tear your heart into five pieces.
Plus, it almost explains Happy Feet. Almost.
