Review of Awakenings (1990) by Alan J — 21 Mar 2008
There is not much that I can really say about Awakenings. This is the first time I've seen it in one sitting, but in all honesty, I'm not sure why I hadn't before. I always have a soft spot for films that are based on thruths. This is definately one of the reasons.
I bawled like a little bitch at several key moments, and that always earns points with me. I can't cry for personal situations, so when a piece of film brings me to me knees... I always give a standing ovation.
Robin Williams never fails to amaze me. I'm pretty sure he could do just about anything. He's made me cry, scream, and laugh. In the end, that's all you can really ask of any actor. He will always be #1 for me and I'll continue to see every movie he's in because of it.
De Niro just likes to remind us how awesome he is. He can be a badass, he can be a drag queen, he can be mentally disabled, he can be an average guy. I personally believe that he just has 40 different multiple personalities that he taps into during filming. He's flawless.
