Review of Awake (2005) by Xevaztian V — 23 Oct 2009
I don't know why so many people thought this was funny or had to laugh. This is a very good, very mellow, but effective from beginning to end movie. If you have never met anyone who's been awake during an open cavity operation, you should ask and explore before laughing at this.
My own mother had an operation where she unfortunately suffered a heart attack because of the pain she was feeling while she was being operated on. She wasn't being operated on her heart, but the anesthesia made her muscles relaxed enough for her eyelids to momentarily close.
After this, they were taped, just like in this movie (I don't understand why). A little later, the pain of the knife cutting her awoke her, but she could not move. The pain was so intense that she passed out only to be awakened by the pain again, until her heart could no longer take the pain and fear.
She survived, but now has an inmense fear of any medical procedure. This is similar to what happens in this movie. However, in the movie, there are a couple or more underlying story lines which intertwine with each other to add character, drama, suspense and horror to this movie.
The ending is not necessarily a twist, but an effect of the circumstances. I think this is a highly effective, engaging and very well made movie. Anyone who finds it comical definitely has a mind more twisted than that of Jigsaw.
