Review of Autumn Sonata (1978) by Codie E — 14 Oct 2009
Ingmar Bergman can rightfully be criticised for being overly articulate, particularly through dialogue, but I personally find it like having a book read for you by excellent actors, complete with literatures ability to fully describe, through dialogue, feelings and moods.
And this film is a perfect example of this. If you want cinema to be purely a visual medium that you need to work for, then stay away. But if you want to interract with dialogue and very articulate characters through cinema Bergman is your man.
