Review of Autumn Sonata (1978) by Brad S — 01 Jan 2014
A powerful film that finally put the 2 Bergmans together(Ingmar and Ingrid) to create a thought provoking examination of a complicated mother/daughter relationship. Bergman plays a mother visiting her daughter for the first time in years, and Liv Ullman as the daughter slowly reveals some of the wounds she has been harboring over the years, until they finally both confront their past in a devastating fashion.
The writing is top-notch, as is the acting, particularly by Bergman who was nominated for an Oscar, and should have one in my opinion. Highly recommended.
