Review of Automaton Transfusion (2008) by Chase F — 07 Jan 2010
Now I know that people may hate me for saying this but I prefer this film to Diary of the Dead. A lot of people slagged this movie off. Ok the acting wasn't that good and the story may not have been worthy of an Oscar, but if you just take it for what it is, you'll enjoy it.
I bought this on DVD in the UK via the name Zombie Transfusion. I, like everyone else expected the worst but I found that I enjoyed it. It is fairly decent for a low brow, low budget, blood and guts fest.
I have seen much worse zombie films that try to be like Romero's, this is better than most. I feel like this film is being underappeciated. If you use your brain, it's true you won't like it.
However if you turn your brain off and just enjoy it for the schlock fun that it is, you'll enjoy it a hell of a lot more. The special FX were fairly good, even looking realistic in a couple of scenes.
Every death has shades of other horror movies at the core. There is even a scene that rivals Anthopopagus the beast where a zombie gives a woman a home birth with a difference. The acting was ok, some did ham it up but that didn't spoil the film for me.
Yes I'm afraid that these zombies were the running kind but the story does explain why they are able to run if you listen closely. The fx on the zombies was good in some parts but the rest of the time, they just had blood splattered or smeared on their faces.
The action comes thick and fast that gets your blood pumping and the camera doesn't shy away from the violence and gore. In fact some of it is shown in great detail. Mind you so did some of the characters by the end.
The standoff towards the end was worth watching as you can see that the director was heavily influenced by Evil Dead and the videogame Left 4 Dead. Zombie Transfusion aka Automaton tranfusion is a good 1hr 20 mins of gruesome goodness and even a good laugh.
Just face it, zombie movies are what they are and they ain't gonna change, so just accept it and enjoy it.
