I don't mind the implausibility, because realism and Luhrman don't belong in the same sentence anyway. What troubles me is:
1) The inconsistent application of the Wizard of Oz parallels.
2) The shoddy character development.
3) The fact this seems to be two plots put together.
4) The over-explanation for Australian audiences but under-explanation for foreign audiences.
All his other stuff is better. Much better. This was like a low-budget 80s Australian film only expensive and crap.
