Review of August Underground's Mordum (2003) by Al M — 04 Aug 2010
Okay, first things first, DON'T WATCH AUGUST UNDERGROUND'S MORDUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! This goes for everyone out there except my select group of transgressive cinema aficionados. Okay, now on to my review...
After rating the first August Underground film from Toetag Pictures, I am again stuck with a conundrum as to how to rate Mordum. If you are rating the film purely on sickness, then it definitely receives a five out of five. If, however, like me, you are looking for something more in your twisted cinea than just depictions of gore, filth, and nastiness, then Mordum fails completely. I give it one star for its realistic effects and its chilling usage of first person cinematography. But Toetag Pictures already did this in the original August Underground film. This film is more of the same, but it takes everything to an exponentially higher level of sickness: castration, vaginal mutilation, necrophilia, emetophilia, coprophilia, torture, murder, rape, etc. all make uncomfortable appearances in the film. Indeed, this is one of the few films that almost made me physically ill during it, and it was not due to gore but prolonging gagging sounds. Nasty, sick, depraved, and completely, unremorsefully pointless, Mordum is a film that questions whether it has a point aside from being snuff porn for the creators and the viewers who actually enjoy it.
