Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Judie M — 15 Feb 2014

For me, this was a forceful journey back into a well known family drama. In this case three daughters react in a very different way to a dysfunctional mother's needs. No one understands why the father stood by this woman for so many years. Each one of them loved the father and despised the mother. The father couldn't take it anymore and in the end, he parts ways.

In no particular choice of age, one of the three daughters chose to be responsible and it was all taken from her till the very end when her last attempt at happiness gets crushed, once again, by the mother. The second also chose to be responsible but kept her distance as much as possible while struggling to protect her own marriage from becoming as damage goods as her parents' and the third simply couldn't find her way to a normal life so she kept jumping from one chance to another in life. In the end, they all left to never return! Outstanding characters, performances and dynamics in this well directed movie. A must see!
