Review of Audition (2000) by Andrew D — 21 Mar 2009
Beautifully and artfully shot, acted, and scored, with an original, brilliant concept and sympathetic characters. The first 90 minutes is a romantic comedy/character drama. The third act is surreal, nightmarish, scary, intense, and nauseating. This is a double-edged sword - while it builds up to and contributes to a shocking finale, it's slow and takes 3/4 of the film to get there, which makes multiple viewings difficult. The second viewing made a little more sense, and I do appreciate it a little bit more.
7.5/10.
