Review of Au Revoir les Enfants (1987) by Dwayne M — 04 Mar 2009
Au revoir, les enfants is a powerful film that you will never forget. When Jean Bonnet aka Jean Kippelstein was taken away by the Germans, it is impossible for you not to hope for a miracle of his survival. The whole movie was done with great skill that tapped into your emotions that allowed you to get to know the characters well.
It transformed you in to the shoes of character "Easter Bonnet" and made you want to just be his friend. Which Julien Quentin finally did become. They had many of ups and downs as children do have with no comprehension of the limit time they had under the dark Cloud of Nazis. But when the Infirmary Nurse turned in the hidden boy under the sheets, it causes so much disgust and rage in you that it is hard not to react. Just for one moment think about being arrested and thrown in a Concentration camp to die, just for being Jewish. What feelings all those innocent people must have experienced of different ages.
