Review of Au Revoir les Enfants (1987) by Eric J — 11 May 2012
It may just seem a simple storytelling at first viewing; multiple viewings will open your senses to the beautiful subtleties of this film. :D First thing I like is the endearing precociousness of Julien; Gaspard Manesse, bless he for his performance.
The intellectual pre-adolescent Julien is met by a competition in Jean although this just effortlessly turned into a solid friendship. While this childhood friendship has just got fonder, they are now faced by this Nazi huntdown of which Jean is seeking the Catholic school's help for hiding.
Julien, wise as he was beyond his years, was not prepared to embrace their friendship's fated tragedy. How devastating. :(.
