Review of Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) by Darryl J — 22 Aug 2008
I don't think I'll ever get use to Robert Bresson's need for his actor's to "not act". I see why he does it and why it's sort of effective but I don't think I'll ever really like/enjoy it.
There's a lot of symbolism related to religion but I don't care too much. I took this film as a simple tale about a donkey who gets mistreated and can't do anything about it. It works for me as that.
The end scene is really heartbreaking. Why did the best character have to die?!
