Review of Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) by Hiatt N — 25 Aug 2012
Beauty in the strangest places ... what an achievement. I can see why people would dislike this film, but to me it's perfect. The purposely distant attitude reminded me of the films of Yasujiro Ozu, with emotional meaning lying just beneath the obvious actions of the characters and camera.
That kind of emotional creation is so much more potent than anything melodramatic, and this is truly a masterpiece for the ages.
