Review of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958) by Alex K — 25 Mar 2010
Definitely falling within the 'so bad it's good' category, this camp classic, one of the many 'atomic mutation gone wild' B-movies of the Eisenhower era, follows the adventures of an alcoholic harridan (Hayes) as she encounters a gigantic alien in the California desert.
Exhausted and hysterical, her cheating husband (Hudson) and dull townfolk don't believe her - until she grows to the size of an office tower and takes revenge on all who have wronged her! Dreadfully inept effects produce a good deal of unintentional laughs, and those that choose to read a feminist subtext into this god-awful mess do so at their peril.
