The film gives you no reason to care about its characters. They're just the geek, the princess, the weird mole guy...they don't have any personality to speak of, so you can't really get into it.
And I had problems with the animation too, although I couldn't tell you exactly what it is about it I didn't like. It just looked...off. There was something weird about it that I could not put my finger on.
