Review of Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) by A Girl From " — 05 Aug 2011
The theme and setting of Atlantis has been a rare one to be adapted in movies and ends up a success. Actually, it can be both brilliant and unique to bring up this theme if only an equally good movie was made.
Atlantis had a good storyline, yet the major problem here is the length of the movie and the quick tempo of the plot. The first half of the movie is somewhat so fast that I can't really immerse into what's going on, nor empathize any of the characters. But it gets better when they arrived in Atlantis, though the tempo still considered as too fast and short.
The actions were actually very good, just doesn't have enough time to developed well. Honestly, I can say that this movie might be a bigger success if they did it in live-action instead of animantion, and of course extend the running time from just around 90 minutes to 120 minutes or so. This way, the movie can gives more space to bring audience deeper into the story, characters, and actions.
