Review of Assassination Nation (2018) by Vivian%20 P — 24 Sep 2018
Honestly I wouldn't be posting this if all of the professional critics didn't seem to have managed to miss the point.
Several reviewers seem to be under the impression that this was supposed to be social satire. It's really not it's really really not. No part of the story is unrealistically exaggerated. It's not social satire, it's barely even social commentary. It's just life.
Assassination nation is a personification of the Internet; it's crowded, it's cluttered, it's violent, it's disorganized, and it's confusing.
That's the point!
It is also a powerful acknowledgment of the extraordinary accomplishments and strength under fire, both litteral and figurative, of this generation.
The only criticism that I can honestly agree with is that the movie is very blunt. This isn't allegory and it isn't delicately handled. It's blunt it was obviously SUPPOSED to be blunt.
I sincerely hope that assassination nation ultimately receives the credit it deserves. I wish I could say I was surprised by how the mostly over 30 mostly white mostly male reviewers had responded to it, but I really can't.
On a personal note seeing this movie in a mostly empty theater, which.
Allowed me to yell at the screen frequently, was a supremely cathartic experience that I highly recommend to anyone who's pretty pissed about what the f?? has happened to our country.
