Review of Armadillo (2010) by Paul J — 13 Nov 2010
It's The Hurt Locker for real. There are some seriously powerful moments with these Danish soldiers. This documentary about the war in Afghan doesn't give any easy answers. It shows both sides (the Afghan civilians are clearly and understandably heard protesting) while we fully get the soldiers POVs.
They are there for a good reason. We care about them, while also feeling slightly worried about the whole situation. It's as neutral as a documentary should be. It's smart, unapologetic, scary and provocative.
Particularly disturbing, the cutting from video game violence to real violence. We also understand how difficult the soldiers have it. It's a fine line between abusing your power and self-defense.
Ultimately, these are real people having to cope with unreal situations.
