Review of Armadillo (2010) by Derek C — 26 Jun 2011
Early in this film one of the characters says "Welcome to Nam" - possibly the best verite style 'embedded" war documentary ever and cerainly the best in recent decades. Afghanistan like Vietnam is an impossible war.
No army, no matter how technologically advanced can fight a war where it is impossible to indentify the enemy and separate them from those one is ostensibly trying to 'help.' As unpalatable as it seems, 'terrorism' can simply not be fought this way.
Whatever the personal journey of these young solders, they are the meat in a bullshit sandwich where they can so easily be accused of 'war crimes' in simply trying to stay alive. - seen at 2011 Sydney Film festival.
