Ian McKellan was great, but Brad Renfro was pretty weasely and unlikable. The fact that he's in a movie makes you realize how old said movie is. While it's definitely not the worst Stephen King adaptation, it's definitely not the best and just misses the mark.
It's just filled with too much random and nonsensical garbage to make you care.
