Review of Apostle (2018) by Rudyger — 23 Dec 2018
I liked the characters, scenery and acting. The first half of the movie is already seen, but well-done and always working. Recently, tons of movies and mostly videogames have done this. You arrive in a strange et secluded place, where everything is strange but peaceful. And the viewer knows at some point, it's gonna go full bloody gory rampage.
In this movie, well, it didn't, at least, not fully. When things start to go apesh*t, it was good, with a nice tension. THEN. THEN, for no reason, instead of going more crazy, the movie is somehow slowing, going in maaaany directions, to end in some anti-climactic way. I was kinda bothered by this. For more than one hour, I expected so much the bad guys to get rampaged by our hero, and it never really happens. This movie subverted my expectations. Not for the best, I'm afraid.
By the way, this film was rated 18+ on Netflix. Before seeing it, I even made a bet with myself to see if I could stand it until the end. Well, actually, the movie is not so scary, barely gore, and has zero nudity. We've seen MUCH worse in 16+ movies. You can watch it, but don't expect a thrilling horrifying experience.
