Review of Apostle (2018) by Compi24 — 22 Oct 2018
One of the more frustrating watches of 2018, Gareth Evans' "Apostle," starts out with tremendous promise, harnessing a viscerally interesting premise, sense of atmosphere, and visual touch to engross the audience into the protagonist's plight.
That is, until that plot-line is almost entirely abandoned for a whole host of other, much less interesting sub-plots. And its within this morass of mixed signals, muddled motivations, and head-scratching narrative decisions that the movie almost lost me.
Still, the movie looks great and has a pretty great climax. I just couldn't get behind the movie spreading itself as thin as it ended up.
