Review of Anthropoid (2016) by Sirbrandon V — 21 Aug 2016
"Anthropoid" is an espionage World War II thriller about a group of Czechoslovakian nationalists who have been conscripted by the British government to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, Hitler's ranking officer.
Heydrich is overseeing the Reich's occupation of Czechoslovakia, and the nationalists are looking for an opportunity to assassinate him. There is fear in the rebellion that Hitler will retaliate which makes this decision have tremendous moral repercussions.
The first half of this film is slow but by the middle it picks up. It is a very edgy, gritty film that is compelling but equally morose at the same time. The film is painfully dark but considering the times I guess it had to be.
Not a film to be watched if you want light subject matter -------------------------------------------------------- B.
