Review of Anthropoid (2016) by Brendan C — 11 Aug 2018
Just watched this film last night and was riveted. I was unaware of this story and I am so glad to know it now. At first, one is not sure what to expect. When Jan (Jamie Dornan) is shaky at killing, it is easy to roll the eyes, but you quickly see how intent Josef (Cillian Murphy) is on the mission.
The combination makes you understand the human aspect of the situation and how these ordinary men needed to make a difference while fearing for their lives. Dornan is pretty good, definitely better than that 50 Shades stuff, but it is Murphy who is legit in this role.
We feel his patriotism, his failure, and his fears. The last half of the movie is explosive and Murphy's closing sequence was mesmerizing. The heroism is very powerful in this surprisingly thought provoking film.
