Review of Another Woman (1988) by Jenna I — 14 Feb 2011
Everything about Gena Rowlands performance in this film is utterly convincing. She has one of the most beautiful faces capable of subtlety of expression few other actresses of here era have. Good then that she is in every scene practically and we can experience a performance which involves us at a deeply emotional level.
She plays a woman just turned 50 who is reflecting on her life, her relationships and regrets at not having children. Her reflection is sparked when she moves into an appartment and can hear a therapist and his patient talking about personal matters.
This is one of Woody Allen's most reflective films and brief at 81 minutes and packed with good actors including Gene Hackman, Mia Farrow and Ian Holm but Rowlands is the standout. Excellent and recommended.
