This is would have been quite a good movie that was, however, ruined for me by several technical stuff ups which bordered on the ludicrous. Firstly, the alien ship/asteroid crashes into the lighthouse at seemingly orbital speeds. Instead of the considerable transfer of energy caused by such a collision, the lighthouse remains intact when in reality it (and a considerable surrounding area) would have been blown to smithereens. Wow. Nice science, guys.

Secondly, the lack of any seeming military presence around the shimmer just seems incomprehensible; one would assume that even if the military wasn't overly concerned about what's going on inside the shimmer, then surely they must have been concerned about what might have been coming OUT of it? Yet, apparently just a research building is located a mile or two from the shimmer boundary - no real sign of hardline military angst, etc, etc. Again - wow. In reality, the whole damned periphery (land and sea) would have been crawling with military (and god knows who else) with nervous guns pointed inwards.

And no radio signals emitted from the shimmer? Umm - ever heard of field telephone using physical wire (i.e Signal Corps?) This aspect wasn't even raised and/or a reason why it didn't work stated outright. I SO dislike movie writers, directors and studios treating us like f*cking idiots. Lift your game please, and at least TRY for some realism and hard science. Movie RUINED by such failures. It was The Last Jedi ALL OVER AGAIN.
