Review of Annihilation (2018) by Arianne H — 30 Jun 2018
Gee, is this ever a ridiculous movie. I mean what is it, a monster movie with mutated sea-creatures? an outdoor survival flick? a sci-fi flick? It is a movie whose characters are so superficial that even the amazing actress Natalie Portman is wasted on this film.
It's only achievements are her subtle facial expressions. You won't care about anyone in this movie. There is no plot, most of it centers on a group of women wandering around an area called "The Shimmer" going into different rooms and places, and seeing weird things, monsters, creatures, flowers, whatever.
There are a lot of little somethings to this move but they all add up to one big nothing. The reason for 3 stars instead of 2 or 1 is that strangely, like the movie, I keep thinking about this movie, even though the thinking is pretty brainless, also like the movie.
It could have been more interesting if there was some type of scientific point to actually research after the movie. Not thought provoking enough, and nothing to go on.I am not pondering anything after the credits other than why did Naalie Portman decide to star in ths movie?
