Review of Annie Hall (1977) by Petros T — 27 Dec 2010
Allen's peculiar sense of humour and lovely pessimism are genuine and unique while his acting skills are indisputable. "Annie Hall" is realistic and heartfelt and has two excellent leads.
Its main problem, though, is that it has a rather egocentric approach and many obsessions and that some of the jokes fail to make you laugh. On the contrary, when it was created, it was a rather new form of comedy and remains special to this day.
But (apart from some sudden glimpses) it is far from brilliant.
